About

Bush Telegraph … an informal network which spreads news through a region of rural or outback Australia

The Bush Telegraph is an app that allows you and your community to share information about emergency incidents.

The purpose of the Bush Telegraph is to support communication within small / isolated rural communities about incidents like road closures, tree falls, floods, etc. If anyone posts an incident on the app, everyone else in the community with the app gets a notice on their phone, including map location, short description and photo. Crowd-sourced and real time!

You can:

  • Receive real time notifications of any incidents posted by your fellow Community members.
  • Update incidents with photos or comments.
  • Record new incidents that your Community should know about.

If your community is interested in using the Bush Telegraph, please email a request to admin@bushtelegraph.org

The Bush Telegraph has been designed and developed, and is owned by a non-profit community volunteer run organisation - the Megalong Valley Community and Landowners Association - with funding from the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund (administered by Resilience NSW in partnership with the National Recovery and Resilience Agency and Emergency Management Australia) to help our community and other similar rural communities be more resilient in the face of emergencies.

This system is primarily intended for use by people, not organisations. If your organisation is interested in posting to a Bush Telegraph Community, please first contact admin@bushtelegraph.org
